Two glass-clad hydraulic doors open Sam's Tavern in Seattle to outside dining
Sam's Tavern Pike Street bar in Seattle is acclaimed for its renowned USA Today endorsed Bakon Bloody Mary and great food. The restaurant and bar opened early this year as part of a newly constructed 13-story office building. The bar has two Schweiss 11'8" x 9' hydraulic glass-clad doors that open to an outside patio area.
Sam's Tavern, a new Pike Street, South Lake Union bar and restaurant in Seattle, WA has been described as a "Woodsy, Whimsical Bar," a name that pays homage to the original Red Robin founding family location near the University Bridge. It's here at this location where you will find great food and a Bloody Mary hailed by USA Today as one of the top seven places in the U.S.; Seattle Weekly "People's Choice" also hailed it as the Mount Rushmore of Seattle Bloody Mary's.

Sam's Tavern Bloody Mary Masterpiece comes topped with a cheesy slider, and lives up to its name of Sam's Bakon Bloody Masterpiece. It's literally a meal in itself; never short on accompaniments, with celery, pickles, pickled asparagus, pepper jack cheese cubes, li'l smokies, and a mini-cheeseburger on a stick. They use Bakon brandname vodka, which adds a smokiness to the taste.
Their tasty menu also includes breakfast selections, a wide assortment of gourmet burgers, sandwiches, salads, chili, Mexican food and more. Party reservations are available at both locations for groups larger than 10 people.
Owner James Snyder promises good burgers and energetic environs that pay tribute to the original Red Robin. Snyder is the son and the nephew of the first two Red Robin franchisees. Snyder bedecked the space in wood reclaimed from an old cold storage facility.
Two Schweiss hydraulic doors open to an outside courtyard giving the establishment additional seating. The hydraulic doors are clad in glass and can be opened even on rainy days to keep patrons dry while enjoying the outdoor patio area. Each custom-made door is 11'8.75" wide by 9' tall and has electric photo eye sensors. The hydraulic pumps that run the strong Schweiss cylinders are mounted inside the building near the doors.
Each of the side-by-side hydraulic doors at Sam's Tavern can be run independently of each other and stopped safely at any level.
The doors were installed by Crawford Door, LLC of Lynnwood, WA; a company that also installed decorative Schweiss bifold liftstrap doors on the Pike Motorworks apartment building in Seattle and numerous other bifold doors at other locations.
Jon Bennion of Crawford Door was project manager, overseeing door work and other aspects for the new building. Crawford Door also has a subsidiary company called interiorTech; a Washington and Oregon specialty contractor that provides architectural specifications, product Information and contractor services; they also had a hand in the door design.
"We worked with the design exterior package with the General Contractor, Turner Construction; how the doors were going to look and line up and match the exterior, as well as the structural support. It was Crawford Door that recommended and installed the hydraulic doors for Sam's Tavern," said Bennion. "They went with our recommendation of hydraulic doors to open up an outdoor seating area."

"The original plan was to mount the hydraulic pump motors on the ceiling, but there wasn't enough room so they were mounted above the brick pillars alongside the doors inside the building," noted Bennion.
"The hydraulic door with its low headroom clearance is very useful. The Amazon office block, known as Vulcan Block 45, is a new 13-story construction project consisting of a 317,000 sq, ft, office building in downtown Seattle designed by NBBJ Architects. The South Lake Union 400 9th Ave. North establishment shares much of the same offerings as at its first location at 1024 E Pike St. There you will also find great burgers, bottomless fries, $1 Rainiers, and a sports bar.
The Capitol Hill mezzanine level looks over the entire bar with room for up to 40. They can setup the space however you would like. Enjoy a game of flip cup, beer pong, dartboard, a private bar, and more.
Party reservations (for groups larger than 10) can be taken at either location. The South Lake Ranier Room is a semi-private space with seating for 32, or can be expanded for groups between 40-80. For groups between 80-240, they also have options available on the other side of the bar. A full size projection screen is available for games or presentations.
