“Beyond the door being high quality, I felt comfortable about the company standing behind it and helping me along the way to make sure the building frame was built properly. I had absolute complete support from the Schweiss organization for that. The relationship with Schweiss as a company has been phenomenal. I'm a small company owner myself, I appreciate the fact that the founder of Schweiss Doors is reachable when necessary. I appreciate the fact that he is innovative and always making improvements.”

Mesa Cold Storage, Arizona
You probably won't see a nicer looking hangar than the one owned by Daniel Coury of Queen Creek, Arizona. He's a loyal Schweiss Door customer, who over the past year or two has ordered 13 bifold hangar doors and speculates he will be ordering 22 more in the next two years for his five-acre development holding 31 box hangars; an ongoing project at Pegasus Airpark where he now has nine hangars completed.
His son, Daniel Jr., and his brother are also Schweiss bifold liftstrap door customers and Coury has more Schweiss bifold doors on other hangars and his garage as well.
Coury is a successful entrepreneur, who with his sons, operate Mesa Cold Storage. Mesa Cold Storage is a temperature controlled logistics and refrigerated warehouse company headquartered in Tolleson, Arizona with four locations in three states. He and his wife have four kids and seven grandkids.
The Lancair Evolution is a turbine-powered aircraft with a Pratt & Whitney engine putting out maximum horsepower of 750 shp. It stands 30 ft. x 10 ft. with a 37 ft. wingspan and seats four.
His modern steel 80 ft. x 100 ft. insulated show hangar has two Schweiss bifold liftstrap/autolach doors; a 70 ft. x 18.6 ft and a 60 ft. x 18 ft. tall. The thick 5 ft. square saw-cut concrete rebar reinforced floor is painted in a color scheme to match his planes and epoxy coated to give it a dazzling look.
Connected to this hangar are two 50 ft. x 43 ft hangars. His hangar, complete with "Big Ass Fans," is capable of easily holding nine planes with the smaller hangars holding up to two planes each. One of his personal hangars has a workout room with an office, tool room and bathroom. The other hangar is a service hangar with a tractor and equipment where he can work on his planes.
The hangar has optimum air circulation when the brandname "Big Ass Fans" are turned on. Here you see his Lancair IV-P and Aviat Husky that he flies into the backcountry.
"We went with top quality executive box hangars with plumbing on deeded ground that can be passed down for generations. Because we went with top quality 61 ft. x 50 ft. hangars (selling at $350,000), with 18 ft. clear inside, 60 ft. doors, we chose to go with Schweiss doors because of the quality and reputation," said Coury.
Coury first got the flying bug in 1972 while attending college. Now he annually logs 400-600 hours per year in the air, mostly for traveling and pleasure, flying his turbine engine Lancair Evolution, Lancair IV-P, Lancair Legacy and Aviat Husky for backcountry flights out of Pegasus Airpark.
The walls, ceiling and bifold doors are well insulated against the extreme Arizona heat. A decorative maroon paint stripe adds accent to the floor and wall of the hangar.
Coury was introduced to Schweiss Doors when he first bought a couple of hangars that already had Schweiss bifold doors on them. Contemplating on bidding on 13 hangars he gravitated to the Wisconsin Oshkosh Airshow Schweiss show booth where he personally met Mike Schweiss for the first time. He had heard from people years ago that the Schweiss door was the best door and wanted to see what made them the best. He estimated that probably half of the hangar and hangar homeowners at Pegasus Airpark own Schweiss doors.
"Mike took it on the gamble that I was legit and we later sat down over dinner where he educated me on doors and the differences and so on. When I got back I sold my contractor on Schweiss Doors and told him I would accept no other door than a Schweiss door," noted Coury.
Coury said he did compare Schweiss doors to other doors on the market. He liked the quality of Schweiss doors and the reputation of the company seemed more solid. He really did not want a hydraulic door, so he only looked at bifold doors. The other door companies did not have straps, so that narrowed down his search to Schweiss only.
"We have the winds called haboob out here. We had one last night where the wind got up to 49 mph. If that wind hits, look out. I'll open my bifold doors up in the biggest wind; especially with the reinforcement Mike helped me design.
A haboob is a type of wall of dust intense storm carried on an atmospheric gravity current. Haboobs occur regularly in arid regions throughout the world. The wind and dust can rise high into the air as it blows over the Arizona valley and can last for up to three hours.
“I have an absolute safety security, knowing the doors are not going to snap or come down and will give a long, long life. I open and close my doors like on a house; they get used and used and just keep working. Why would I take a chance on another door when I have such good luck with a Schweiss door? I still think there is a lot of value in a name too. Part of my marketing strategy for selling my hangars is that we have Schweiss doors, not the wannabe's, it's a big benefit!”

Mesa Cold Storage, Arizona
While many Schweiss door owners in hot climates like Arizona prefer a hydraulic one-piece door for the extra shade it provides, Coury is a dyed-in-the-wool bifold liftstrap/autolatch door only advocate. One specific reason he cited was the ability to park your aircraft or vehicle closer to the doors.
With a push of the remote opening control button, the pilot of his Husky doesn't even have to leave the cockpit when entering or exiting the hangar.
"My doors are all bifolds, said Coury. "I like the liftstraps and autolatches, but I like his new autolatch even better. Having had direct contact with Mike Schweiss and his brother, Dave, I was able to see to it that not only the door came in as a well-built door, but that my building was reinforced properly for it. If it wasn't for them, I would never have otherwise gotten the specs for reinforcement, so that over time and years and years of ownership I was assured there would never be any sagging or bending of the walls. Mike had me direct the contractor to give extra building strength for the door.
"The doors were built very well, very strong, and I like the straps far better than the cables. I have four or five doors with cables at six other hangars in other airparks that are still working fine, but I much prefer the superior straps for wearability. I would never put a cable door up again anywhere or anytime.
"I have an absolute safety security, knowing the doors are not going to snap or come down and will give a long, long life. I open and close my doors like on a house; they get used and used and just keep working. Why would I take a chance on another door when I have such good luck with a Schweiss door? I still think there is a lot of value in a name too. Part of my marketing strategy for selling my hangars is that we have Schweiss doors, not the wannabe's, it's a big benefit," stressed Coury.
Coury also praised the people at Schweiss Doors, who he said always answered his questions and were supportive in any way - supportive of the end user, not the builder. The Schweiss loyalty goes to the people who are going to use the doors.
"Beyond the door being high quality, I felt comfortable about the company standing behind it and helping me along the way to make sure the building frame was built properly," noted Coury. "I had absolute complete support from the Schweiss organization for that. The relationship with Schweiss as a company has been phenomenal.
"I'm a small company owner myself, I appreciate the fact that the founder of Schweiss Doors is reachable when necessary. I appreciate the fact that he is innovative and always making improvements, and I like supporting a company that has been in business that long and who has built such a good reputation," concluded Coury.
Coury's 31 box hangar complex sitting on five acres is an ongoing project for him. In addition to the 13 Schweiss bifold liftstrap/autolatch doors he has already bought, he is looking at an additional 22-door order within the next two years.
