their debut at elegant China hotel

There are no boundaries when it comes to Schweiss hydraulic and bifold doors - they're sold worldwide. The advent of the Internet years ago has expanded the name of Schweiss Doors and orders for these quality doors go to every edge of the earth.
Case in point: Schweiss Doors successfully filled an order for three 12x20 ft. hydraulic designer doors for the new $250 million five-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Shanghai, China.
The delegation from China wanted the Ritz-Carlton Hotel to have an elegant look and decided the glass designer doors from Schweiss would look very nice as well as serve a function.
The architect and a project coordinator from China assigned to this lavish hotel wanted to see firsthand the workings of Schweiss Doors, so they boarded a plane in the middle of the winter to tour the Minnesota factory where their three doors were built. What they saw here, along with the information provided on the Schweiss website, reaffirmed them without a doubt that Schweiss Doors craftsmanship was up to their stringent standards.
Three 12 ft. x 20 ft. Schweiss glass hydraulic designer doors open to the plazalevel restaurant at $250 million Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
They stated they wanted their new hotel to have a look of elegance. By definition, the word "Ritz" means 'ostentatious luxury and glamour.' The hotel people wanted to build something nobody else had, and that included glass-front, sophisticated looking doors opening to the hotel's plaza-level restaurant.
The first contact with Schweiss Doors originated from a telephone call. Mike Schweiss, owner of Schweiss Doors relates: "It was about 7:30 in the evening. I was outside washing my car. My cell phone rings. The guy asks, "Are you Mike Schweiss with the Schweiss Doors operation?"
The call was from Shanghai, China. The guy making the call was Robin Ho, born in Malaysia but for several years now Quality Control Director for Beijing Curtain Wall Co., LTD., a huge Chinese business development firm that is part of the Yangtze River Delta Group in Shanghai.
So why the cell phone conversation between Ho and Schweiss? Internet to the rescue. Just a few months back, Schweiss Doors was a non-entity to Robin Ho but as many have learned, the Internet is a world dictionary. Ho, like thousands do every day, went Google, then started by clicking "doors." Another click and the Schweiss website surfaced.
Related Ho, "After that it was a routine process of sorting through the tremendous amount of information the Schweiss Door website provides. And that led to my phone call. Imagine my surprise to be talking with the president of the company. And he's washing his own car as I talk with him. That immediately told me this is a no-nonsense "down to earth" operation. I wasn't needing to wade through layers of people to get my questions answered."
Robin Ho showed up at Schweiss Doors in rural Minnesota. He and his project coordinators had never been to Minnesota but they wanted to see first-hand what Schweiss doors was all about. And Ho finally met, shook hands, and sat down face-to-face with Mike Schweiss. Ho's reaction?
"Well, yes maybe some surprise. Here we fly about 8,000 miles. Then we drive 100 miles from your Minneapolis airport and out here in the country we find this door factory. We see our three doors ready for packaging. I meet Mr. Schweiss and he's in blue jeans. That wouldn't happen in China."
Shipping three 12' x 20' hydraulic doors via shipping containers does indeed require some special packaging. Shipping logistics involved a time frame of three days transit from Schweiss Manufacturing to Los Angeles, then 25 additional days across the Pacific Ocean to Shanghai.
Ho admits the business officials of his development group back in Shanghai were skeptical about making a deal for these three special doors over the phone.
"But I told them. Don't worry. That is how business is done in the United States. I tell them I made the call after 5 o'clock. I'm not certain if anyone would even answer. And here I get the president of the company. So there are no concerns. Then I talk with Jeremy (Jeremy Rieke, special project coordinator for Schweiss Doors). I asked many questions. So I learn more than enough to feel good about making the deal. And being here just further confirms that everything will be okay."
The hydraulic doors with strong Schweiss cylinders were fabricated from galvanized steel and specially painted. Once delivered to the hotel site, unique thermopane windows were installed with a final silver-gray paint scheme.
Indeed. They did a walk-through of the Schweiss facility observing welders, electrical technicians, painters, even the packaging operation.
"The Schweiss people are tremendously accommodating, that I can say for certainty. If they can't answer directly, they get back to me, usually in just a few minutes." noted Ho.
These three Schweiss hydraulic doors were fabricated from galvanized steel and specially painted. Once delivered to the hotel site in Shanghai, unique thermopane windows were installed on site along with a final silver-gray paint scheme. The doors open onto a beautiful landscaped plaza area. Looking in every direction stainless steel sky scrapers dominate the sky. On the outdoor veranda area, three gleaming Schweiss 'window wall' hydraulic doors provide shade and shelter plus 24-hour security for the Ritz-Carlton dining adventure.

China is in the midst of an economic explosion dwarfing that of any other country around the world, including the United States.

It was a 70 ft. hydraulic door, very lightly built, it came in two sections that didn't meet together when they put it together. It showed up bent, and when raised it would bend, very poor weld quality, with welds missing in places. It was a piece of crap, I've never seen something so poor, there was no engineering done on it.
